The Rules

For your map to work in harmony with the game, Co-op Mod and other Mods you need to respect and consider some simple and fair rules.

1. Prefix your Map name with coop_

The prefix helps to differentiate coop maps from ctf, deathmatch or rpg maps and not only for the developer and players,  but also for the Level-Editor.

Assuming your map name would be mymap it would have to look like this: coop_mymap

2. Folder structure

Maintaining a consistent folder structure will help you and others to avoid mistakes and incompatibility issues, plus the Level-Editor will be kept neat, clean and stable.

This is how the folder structure would look like for your map:

  • maps/
  • sysimg/mapshots/
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/mp/
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/sp/

Assuming you want to provide new Models, Textures and Shaders, the folder structure would have to look like this:

  • maps/
  • shaders/
  • sysimg/mapshots/
  • models/coop_mymap/
  • textures/coop_mymap/
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/mp/
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/sp/
3. MINIMUM Required files

Some files are required and need to be precisely exact named and located, otherwise your map might not work. The very required minimum files are:

  • maps/
    coop_mymap.bsp
    coop_mymap.scr
    coop_mymap.mni
  • sysimg/mapshots/
    coop_mymap.dds
4. OPTIMUM Required files

The optimal required files would include a proper background story and the next map to vote if there is one. This would be provided with the two extra cfg-files (more about these later):

  • maps/
    coop_mymap.bsp
    coop_mymap.scr
    coop_mymap.mni
  • sysimg/mapshots/
    coop_mymap.dds
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/mp/
    coop_mymap.cfg
  • coop_mod/cfg/client/sp/
  • coop_mymap.cfg
